Butte 100 Results

Today Ben Parsons of Sportsmen Ski Haus won the Butte 100. Third place was Tinker Juarez riding for Cannondale.

Racers reported that the course was "very hard" and many of the leaders took a wrong turn after the 50 mile marker.

Tinker Juarez

Tinker Juarez will be racing the Butte 100 tomorrow. I knew very little about the former olympian but found him to be a very interesting guy. Tinker became a pro BMX racer at the age of 15. He started mountain bike racing almost ten years later still before any kind of suspension existed. His best results include several World Cup wins and a second place finish at elite mountain bike worlds. Now, Tinker mainly does endurance events. He is using the Butte 100 to prepare himself for the Leadville 100 and Master's Worlds later this year. What I found to be the most interesting is that Tinker does all of his training "by feel". He doesn't use a power-tap, a heart rate monitor, or a computer. He said that on hard days he knows how to work hard but only does what he feels up to. Seems to have worked out pretty well for him...

Tinker Juarez at Missoula Bicycle Works

Former pro BMX racer, mountain bike champion, and ultra-distance road bike racer Tinker Juarez will be at Missoula Bicycle Works this Thursday. Q & A and partying from 6-7 pm.

Bohart Bash Results Brief

The Bohart Bash went off yesterday without a hitch. I was able to catch up with the winner and overall series points leader Lisa Curry today on the roads outside of Anaconda. Lisa won the women's field but was also 5th overall in the Sport Men's category. She said it was a perfect course for her with lots of punchy climbs, plenty of technical single track through the trees, and a downhill finish. Lisa said she was feeling really good and was on time to break the women's course record for but didn't do the fourth lap that pro women would normally complete because she was racing in the sport men's field.

John Curry won the pro men's field and broke the course record as well. Runner-up was Mike McAlla who was 12th in the XC race at Nationals a week earlier. Third place went to Louie, a
Bozeman local.
